Zincs are cheap. Shafts, props, and outdrives are not. Sacrificial anodes corrode so your running gear doesn't, and once they're more than about half gone they've stopped doing their job.
I inspect anodes on every dive and swap shaft, prop nut, trim tab, rudder, and outdrive zincs in the water — no haul-out required.

How often should zincs be replaced?
Most boats in Tampa Bay saltwater need zincs replaced every 6 to 12 months, but marinas with stray current can eat them far faster. I check them on every cleaning dive.
Can zincs be changed without hauling the boat out?
Yes. Shaft, prop, rudder, trim tab, and outdrive anodes are all replaced underwater at your slip.
